FAQs
-
Pelvic floor physical therapy considers the impact that the pelvic floor muscles, the sling of muscles between your two sit bones, have on your symptoms. These symptoms are typically related to: pelvic or abdominal pain, urinary leakage or retention, pregnancy and postpartum, gender affirming surgeries, procedures related to endometriosis, pelvic cancers, medical abortions, miscarriages, or other pelvic and abdominal surgeries.
Pelvic floor PT uses a combination of exercises, stretches, breathing techniques, symptom trigger assessments, and hands on treatments both inside and outside of the pelvis to improve your symptoms. You are always in control of the aspects of your treatment, and there is never any requirement to do internal work.
-
A 50-55 minute intake discussion to voice your healthcare story, go over a thorough medical history, assess for common contributors to pelvic floor symptoms, and come up with an individualized treatment plan to meet your specific goals.
The 20-30 minute exam will likely include things that you know commonly trigger your symptoms. That may be jumping if you’re experiencing incontinence, lifting something heavy if you have back pain, or possibly a pelvic exam if that’s where you typically experience your symptoms. It’s a good idea to wear tennis shoes and clothes you can move easily in.
-
Dr. Krystyna Holland, DPT is a “what is the least number of things I can do to get to the result I’m looking for” kind of gal. Based on your symptoms, your values, and your previous experience, we identify interventions that are likely to be big needle movers, and start with those. The part of pelvic floor physical therapy that takes the longest is figuring out what your specific body and nervous system need in order to reduce your symptoms. Once we figure that out, we typically space out your visits in order to give you time to work on those things at home, using the Inclusive Care accountability software to help you stay on track.
-
Nothing is ever required of you in the treatment room. Dr. Krystyna Holland, DPT has ways of assessing the pelvic floor muscles that do not require an internal exam, including a live action ultrasound unit, which lets us see what the muscles are doing in real time, only requiring an ultrasound head on your lower belly.
To that end, Inclusive Care uses a trauma-informed treatment approach called “shared decision making,” which means that Dr. Krystyna Holland, DPT will give you as much information as she can about what is going on, what the assessment and treatment options could be, and what the pros and cons of each are. Then you make the decisions about what you think would be the most accessible and most helpful.
-
It truly depends on the patient. Inclusive Care has treated patients with significant chronic pelvic pain for as few as 2 visits, and for as many as 20+ over the course of multiple years. Generally speaking, the average number is about 8 visits.
For folks who are experiencing leaking without pelvic pain and are more than 1 year postpartum, the average number of visits is 2-4. For individuals with pelvic pain, especially if it has been longstanding, the number is highly variable.
-
Dr. Krystyna Holland is not in network with any insurance companies due to their tendencies to deny medically necessary care and surprise patients with large, unexpected bills. She is able to accept both HSA and FSA funds and is happy to provide you with a superbill to submit for possible reimbursement from your insurance company.
While quality healthcare should be a right extended to everyone, unfortunately this is not a current reality in the US.
With this in mind, we offer a limited number of Pay-What-You-Can appointments.

Some people find information stress-relieving and some find it stress-inducing. If you are feeling supported and comfortable, and you’ve never had any pelvic floor symptoms, we recommend coming in at about 30 weeks for your labor and delivery preparation appointment. If you want as much information as possible, are trying to cut through the noise of the internet regarding safe activity during pregnancy, have a history of pelvic floor symptoms, or are simply feeling nervous and eyes on, we recommend scheduling now!
Many of our patients are folks who are trying to conceive, or considering trying to conceive and wanting a baseline and some information about what their body is doing before they do.
